Thinking about auditioning for RO? Please DO!

A little nervous and scared? We've all been there: What do I do? Where do I go? What's it like? Are there specific qualifications?
We hope that everyone who thinks about auditioning will come and sing for us, without fear. So, here are some guidelines.

 

What does an audition entail, you ask? 

Here's a breakdown of what a standard audition might involve:

Solo: Come in prepared to sing a few verses of one of your favorite songs. Doesn't have to be anything specific, just something that you think shows off your voice. Don't worry if you don't get through the whole thing either, since we have a lot of auditions to get through so sometimes we have to be aware of time!

Range Exercises: Just some quick exercises to hear how high and low you sing.

Tonal Memory: Intimidating name, simple exercise...we'll play a few notes on our keyboard and ask you to sing them back.

Sightreading: Everybody's favorite part! Kidding. We'll have a snippet of sheet music you've never seen before and ask you to sing it as best you can. Don't stress too much about this part--your ability to read music and your ability to sing are two completely different things!

As far as advice on what to wear, how to act, etc., just be yourself! We are looking for someone with a great voice, and a great personality to match. We're looking forward to seeing you and hope that you will be the next member of our family! Can't wait to see you there!
